| History-
The original
Black Night, was Sir Percy of Scania, one of King Arthur's knights
of the round table. It was to Sir Percy that the magician Merlin
gave the mystic ebony sword. Sir Percy was killed in battle
and the legend of the Black knight was forgotten until the time
of the Crusades, when a descendant of Sir Percy, Eobar Garrington
took on the role to fight for King Richard the Lion Heart. In
the mid twentieth century a scientist Nathan Garret found Sir
Percy's tomb and the mystic ebony blade. Garret was unworthy
and found himself unable to draw the mystic sword so he developed
a mutated winged horse and a lance that fired concussion blasts
and set out on a career of crime coming up against Ironman,
Giantman and the Avengers. Whilst in combat with Ironman he
was fatally injured. Before dying, he passed on his knowledge
to his nephew Dane Whitman. Dane decided to put his uncles scientific
notes to good use and took on the mantle of the Black Knight
. His first mission was to warn the Avengers of the kidnapping
of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver by Magneto, but was mistaken
for his criminal uncle. The mistake was soon rectified when
he saved the Avengers from the Masters of Evil. Dane inherited
the family home Garret Castle in England and flew out to view
it. He found the tomb of Sir Percy and was visited by his spirit
who told him of the story behind the Black Knight. Whitman was
noble enough to draw the mystic ebony sword from its scabbard.
After an encounter with Dr Strange, where he helped defeat the
extra- dimensional entity Tiboro, the Black Knight returned
to America and joined the Avengers. In a battle with the Asgardian
villain the Enchantress Whitman's body was turned to stone and
his spirit sent to reside in the body of his ancestor Eobar
Garrington in the twelfth century. Whitman spent five years
fighting in the crusades and on the death of Garrington was
mystically t returned to the twentieth century. After some difficulty
readjusting to modern day life the Black Knight rejoined the
