History- Piotr was born in the harsh Siberian farmlands of the Ust- Ordynski Collective. His mutant power first emerged during his adolescence and happy with his simple life he used his great strength in his work on the collective's farms. He was contacted by Professor Xavier and joined the X- Men to fight against the sentient island Krakoa. He remained in America with the X- Men, and was soon joined by his young sister Illyana (Later to become Magik of the New Mutants). Some time later Illyana returned to Russia but was kidnapped by Soul Skinner who slew their parents.
Colossus rescued his sister but she later died, the first victim of the Legacy Virus. Piotr was devastated and lost hope in Xavier's dream of peace between Mutants and Humanity, he left the X- Men and joined Magneto's Acolytes until the destruction of the satellite Avalon when he returned to Earth. He went to Scotland to find his former team mate and girlfriend Kitty Pride (Shadowcat). He found her kissing her new boyfriend and Piotr and in a mad rage nearly killed the man. He was taken in and looked after by the British super team Excalibur until the team disbanded when he returned to America with his former team mates Nightcrawler and Kitty to rejoin the X- Men. After the death of Moira McTaggart friend of the X- Men and renowned geneticist, Hank Mcoy (Beast) developed a cure for the Legacy Virus. However to release the antidote required that a mutant become infected causing his powers to flare up and spread the cure throughout the atmosphere. After seeing his sister die from the disease Colossus saw that he could do something to save the rest of Mutant- Kind from the same fate. Without telling anyone he purposefully injected himself with the virus, sacrificing himself and eradicating the legacy virus.
