Fury and His Howling Commandos #1 |
| History-
Nick Fury
was born into Hells Kitchen New York the son of an American
Air Force Pilot who died in the latter days of World War One.
At the outbreak of the Second World War, Fury enlisted in the
US Army, he trained at Fort Dix in New Jersey under a very strict
Sergeant and in a very short time rose to the rank of Sergeant
himself. He made his name on the battlefields of Europe leading
his band of The Howling Commandos in many heroic attacks upon
the Nazis and fighting alongside Captain America.. He was wounded
whilst on a mission in occupied France and was cared for by
Dr Berthold Sternberg who inoculated him with the Infinity Formula
an age retarding serum that has allowed him to keep his youthful
vigour and strength. Fury continued to take the formula for
many years until the cumulative effect meant that he no longer
needed it to retain his prolonged life- span. During the Korean
war Fury once more led his Howling Commandos and was promoted
to the rank of Second Lieutenant. In Vietnam he was an intelligence
operative spying for the French Government, this earned him
another promotion to Colonel and an appointment with the CIA
where he worked on various covert operations for several years.
He was then appointed Director of the newly formed International
Espionage Organisation SHIELD, where he was involved with saving
the world from numerous evils including the super scientists
of AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics) and HYDRA as well as extraterrestrial
menaces such as the Scrulls. Fury with the help of Mockingbird
a former agent eventually uncovered numerous corrupt operatives
within the organisation and SHIELD was disbanded to be formed
anew with Nick Fury once again in charge. |
