| History-
Sunfire's
mother was affected by radiation from the Hiroshima atomic bomb
at the end of the second world war, and it is thought that this
was the source of of his mutation. She died in childbirth Leaving
him in the care of his father Saburo an important diplomat.
Saburo was frequently away from home and the boy grew up in
the care of his uncle Tomo who taught him to hate America for
what it had done to Japan in the war. Sunfire's mutant powers
were first revealed when Tomo took him to the site of the Hiroshima
bomb blast. As he touched the radioactive soil of the site his
mutant power was triggered and Sunfire swore to avenge Japan's
wartime defeat by America. Encouraged by his uncle he they travelled
to America where Sunfire wreaked havoc in Washington DC and
fought with the X- Men. Sunfire's father was in Washington at
the time and managed to calm his son but Tomo shot his brother
dead and Sunfire then killed his uncle and escaping prosecution
due to his diplomatic immunity returned to Japan. He soon returned
at the request of Professor Xavier to aid the new X- Men in
the rescue of the original team from the living island Krakoa.
Sunfire refused Xavier's subsequent offer to join his team wishing
to return to his home country. He was able to help the X- Men
out from time to time however and also went on special missions
for Japan's government. When Sunfire began to have problems
controlling his powers he sought out the Alpha Flight and Department
H, at the suggestion of Wolverine. The Canadian government scientists
discovered that Sunfire's powers were giving him radiation poisoning
and designed a suit for him to control the problem. He spent
a while with Alpha Flight before returning to Japan were he
joined forces with the privately funded Japanese super team
Big Hero 6. |
