| History-
Greer worked
as a Lab assistant for Dr Joanne Tumolo. When her boss began
a psychological experiment to make the subject attain their
full physical and mental potentia funded by Malcolm Donabain
to create an army of warrior women, Tumolo enlisted greer to
became a secret test subject alongside the woman chosen by Donalbain
Shirlee Bryant. Both women emerged from the experiment with
superhuman physical capabilities but Shirlee died during a test.
To cover the death Donalblain arranged for an explosion that
injured Dr Tumolo. Greer thinking her friend and mentor was
dead donned an experimental cat suit and hunted down Donalbain,
exposed his scheme and had him sent to jail. Calling herself
the Cat, Greer set out on a career as a masked crimefighter.
Unknown to Greer Dr Tumolo was in fact a member of the cat People
a humanoid race mystically evolved from cats. The criminal organisation
Hydra became aware of Tumolo and her true identity and abducted
her, the Cat raced to the rescue but was shot with an unknown
beam of radiation. To save Greer Tumolo and the Cat People magically
transformed her into the feline warrior Tigra and she defeated
the Hydra forces. Tigra could still return to her Greer Nelson
form but rarely did so preferring her feline form. She became
an adventurer fighting menaces such as the Super Skrull and
Kraven the Hunter and fought alongside Spiderman and the Fantastic
four. She eventually at the behest of the telepath Moondragon
petitioned for membership to the Avengers. She was accepted
by the team but never truly felt that she deserved the honour
even though she proved herself in battle many times. She left
the group but rejoined the West Coast branch when it was formed
by Hawkeye. During an encounter with the Cat People, Tigra was
offered the opportunity to be cured of her dual nature in return
for killing the demonic human master Pandemonium, she agreed
but could not in the end bring herself to break the Avengers
code of not killing. Unable to control her predatory nature
she elected to remain as Greer Nelson. During a later encounter
with the cat people she once again refused to kill master Pandemonium
and was stripped of her cat soul completely. Donning her original
Cat suit she defeated the Cat People's champion and her cat
soul was once more returned to her, this time though stronger
than ever and controlled by Greer's own intellect. She rejoined
the Avengers but her cat soul still fought her for dominance
and she became wild, predatory and uncontrollable. Whilst wandering
the city she was found by the witch Agatha Harkness who captured
her and called on the Cat People to help her. The new leader
of the Cat People Tabur wanted Tigra to mate with him but she
refused, and Agatha Harkness transferred tigra's cat soul into
him allowing her to retain her Tigra form whilst still retain
completely her human personality, and to once again become Greer
whenever she wanted. |
